The Appointments’s sequences
First appointment :

Photo The Orthodontist examines the mouth, the breathing, the swallowing, and asks some questions : does the patient suffer from allergies or other health trouble ? Does he suck his thumb ?
It is very important to know what is the main difficulty for the patient.

For minors, the presence of one (or two) parent in the examination room is wished.
At the end of this examination, there are two differents options :
a)An orthodontic treatment is not necessary : the child may be too
young or there is no orthodontic trouble.
b)There is a need for an orthodontic treament : in this case,
we have to complete the initial examination by taking pictures,
impression and X-rays.
Second appointment :

It is an explanation appointment. For minors, at least one parent
must go with. The orthodontist explains the trouble, why it is important to correct and how he will fix it : what kind of appliance ? how long ? how much ?
The patient must not hesitate to ask all the questions he wants, everything has to be clear.
Then, an estimate is given to the parents.
Third appointment :
It depends on what kind of appliance has been planned : for a removable appliance, we need an impression, for the braces, we bond them directly on the teeth which take 1 hour but is painless.
Next appointments :
In the average, we have to see the patients every 4 to 8 weeks. The length varies from10 to 30 minutes ; for the braces, we regularly change the wires according to the goals we want to achieve.
Removing the braces :

It takes 45 minutes to remove the braces, clean and polish the teeth. In the same session, we bond a wire behind the lower teeth to maintain them in the same position and take an impression of the upper teeth to make a removable appliance for the night.
It is time to congratulate and thank the patient for his cooperation, to advice him to see his dental surgeon and not forget to show his new smile !
Appointments during the retention period :
We have to see the patients every 2 months for a quick check in. We keep an eye on the wisdom teeth and recommend to remove them if necessary.
